Cold winds blow through the streets and I watch through the window As the rain lightly falls And weighs upon the dying grass. The sky is gray, And my mind echoes with an eerie sympathy. Do the trees weep for the leaves they must shed? Does the wildlife mourn the loss of that radiant warmth? As the tears of heaven transform into crystalline beauty My body shudders with fatigue And I turn back to the exam on my desk.
Pygmalion’s Hunger by Zaria Samuel
A dangerous hunger slowly devourers everything in sight. A hunger that blinds the victim from seeing the damage caused. Tricking them into thinking they’re full until the feeling of starvation settles inside. A longing for something more. Something to fill the screaming void. The hunger burns for eternity, for a lifetime. It speaks. It whispers a soft song like a siren. It’ll sing a false solution to fill the belly of the monster that lives inside The solution is ideal It seems to satisfy, to end the hunger. The burn stops for a while. Suddenly, it is a non-existent feeling, until the scream returns. It’s louder. It appears with company. It brings the abstraction of thoughts, which deepen the void intensifies the scream. The monster kills the notion of beautiful authenticity. Chokes uniqueness of its charm, Dries the well of
individuality, Until nothing is left. Only an empty mask without a face remains and the victim doesn’t recognize the reflection in the mirror. The dark void revals a scary truth and admits the destruction of all
verisimilitude
The void demands more. It yearns for a“quick fix,” Desires the new “trend” In which the by product is a fatal ending, a dead end road, a checkmate with the monster, the alteration of the innocent
perception, Of our generation. The monster is Perfection.
