Poem About a Polar Bear, in a Snowstorm by Sofia Segura
The Imparting of Knowledge* by Paulo Lombardi *This poem is not intended to be read ironically.
Teaching is a job that's quite a treat, I often think I'm in the wrong seat, For I am constantly on my feet, And my patience sometimes takes a beat.
But what can I do, it's my career, And the kids need someone to steer. So I put on a smile, try to appear, Energetic and full of cheer.
I teach them math and English too, And history, science, all anew. But sometimes I wonder, wouldn't you, If they're not learning anything that’s true.
For it seems that they just want to play, And distract each other every day, And I'm the one who has to say, "Put that away and listen, okay?"
But they don't listen, they just giggle, And make me want to wriggle, Out of this profession, that's so fickle, And find a job where my skill can trickle.
But alas, I'm stuck here for a while, Teaching children with a smile, Hoping that they'll learn and compile, Knowledge that will last them until they’re senile.
